Several friends are moving or willing to move to the US, so here's a place to share questions, tips and advice from those who've done it before...

cyril  Having a good immigration lawyer definitely helps. If you get a company to sponsor you, they will most likely have their own lawyer, but you probably want to be educated on the process since the interest of the company (getting you to stay as long as possible in the processing of the green card) can conflict with your own goals.

fherrada  Agreed Cyril...I have been in the US since early 2001 and i had my first interview for the green card last month!!..The INS actually made a mistake and closed my case back in December 06....A, immigratioon attorney would of helped tremendously is solving the problems and go pass the obstacles i met...An attorney could be very expensive but i encourage everybody to revise their priorities as having the GC opens a lot of doors and makes everything so much easier...

Winners receive a chance to Live, Work and Study in the USA legally. You can look for a job in America; you can buy a house in America. Winners can do anything an American can do (excluding voting in elections).

cyril  It's definitly worth applying every year. I know quite a few friends who got their green card that way, and once you have a green card, things are so much easier in the US!

cyril  Apply directly to the us government website. There are a lot of scam sites out there, asking you to pay to submit the application. You don't need it. The application is very straight forward.
