cyril This is a great lens for the price. Awesome to shoot portrait: at f/1.8 you can get very narrow focus, and keep the background blurry. On the downside, it feels a little plastic. Has anyone tried the more expensive Canon 50mm f/1.4? Is it worth the price?

This is the lightest EF lens of all at a mere 4.6 oz. (130g). This compact and high-performance, standard lens features Gaussian optics that provide sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances. The color balance is excellent for a standard lens.

skiss  I'd love to be able to record videos with my DSLR. That's a great feature for sure. As for the pumped ISO, I'm not sure if there is anything new there... you can set the ISO level very high on any DSLR already, it's just you might not want to do it cause you get a lot of noise.
cyril  The argument of high ISO performance stands compared to a regular camcorder when shooting a movie. Noise reduction has also got a lot better in recent SLR models.

melimelo  The only things that worries me is the lack of autofocus. I'm not really good with manual focus on a camera, let alone video camera, but it's still very tempting. Maybe christmas ;)
cyril  When the mirror is out of the way to capture video, the D90 relies on a contrast-detection autofocus system; It's slower, but there is still a way to autofocus.

skiss  I have the EOS 400 D (Rebel XTi) and I'm very happy with it. There's only one thing I have to say about it : I always zoom 5 or 10 times on the screen to see if the picture is sharp, and there's no other way than pressing 10 times this stupid magnifying button. That's the only thing I can think of that I don't like about the camera. Maybe they fixed it on the EOS 450 D. Which one do you have right now ?
cyril  Thanks! I have an older Rebel XT. Overall I love that camera too. I was looking at the XSI for it's much larger LCD screen (which I assumed would make it easier to review pictures - but I'll definitely check on this given your comment), as well as the higher resolution (12Mp) and the spot metering feature.

melimelo  I'm a Nikoner I guess, but definitely the screen has been my main complaint. A good screen makes a huge difference. I do love my Nikon D50, and the more recent D60 looks even better. I have to say the comfort and quality of the Nikons is really top notch. Switching is a huge deal though if you have the lenses and the experience with one manufacturer.

gaijin  As a previous Canon user (EOS 1DMark II), I definitly prefer Nikon. Did someone has tried to use the 300D with its 3" view screen ? (Canon done the same with the last 50D). I think that Nikon is (obviously) more closed to end users. What the **** you can do with a 15 Mpixel (amateur) camera ? Posters for your bedroom ? ... :)
