YokYok  Dang!! Video calls!! The iPhone could be sooooo much cooler if it wasn't for the AT&T bandwidth restrictions, enforced by Apple. So frustrating to know that the technology is current for video calls, synchronization-free podcasts, 3G modem for your laptop...but no, you can't have it!

skiss Netcom (the network provider) threw a launch party where 400-500 guests were invited. In this party they gave away 200 "skip the line" tickets. They dropped 200 ballons on the crowd and each ballon represented one guaranteed iPhone. The result was total chaos...

skiss  Those guys just launched their iPhone app (the iPhone App Store opened today by the way), and I think it's very good. It's only about sharing places, but because of that they're able to offer a solution that's very optimized for this particular need. Actually it's similar to Yokway's map feature, but it's focused on mobility. So it uses the GPS to tell you what places your friends recommended close to where you are, and you can share a location by just pressing a button when you're at the location. The idea is dead simple, and they're not the only ones on the market, but it's well executed. They also have a website, which is OK, but could be simpler (it looks a bit like facebook), and the graphic design could be better too (it looks a bit like vista with blue gradients all over the place...).

skiss  If you have iTunes, check out the App on the App Store, the description is well written and you'll get the idea right away. phobos.apple.com
skiss A very interesting pdf that sums up the ideas of the 50 teams who won the first round of the Android Developer Challenge. They each received $25 000 and are now competing for ten $275 000 prizes and ten $100 000 prizes. Kind of irritating as one of the ideas is exactly the one we presented at Apple with three other friends... ok we won a Macbook.

YokYok  Of course a lot of the 'social' applications would require a number of your friends to carry an android-powered phone before they make sense - double edged sword really. Some very good ideas here nonetheless, and a good sneak peak at what the future may hold for android...and for the iPhone. On a side note, the on-site product review/price comparison application using a picture of the bar code as a product locator is also an idea we had discussed with Cyril some 6+ months ago

YokYok So here's the plan: on or around July 11th, I'll own an iPhone and I will need a wireless headset. I would be inclined to make it simple and go with the Apple headset, but the feedback on the device are so negative that I think I should be looking at alternative options. Suggestions, anyone?
